SAVION GLOVER TAPS TO A NEW BARCUS-BERRY BEAT
Charleston, SC, January, 2006 – Musicorp, the exclusive manufacturer of Barcus-Berry and a leading distributor of music products, accessories and lighting equipment, announced today a sponsorship agreement with Tony Award winning tap dancer, Savion Glover. Musicorp has agreed to provide Glover with $1,759 retail value worth of Barcus-Berry “Outsider” Piezo Transducers for his upcoming tour. The Barcus-Berry transducer, which is typically mounted on the soundboard of a guitar to augment sound capabilities, will be uniquely fastened to the stage to create an amplified floorboard. Glover will demonstrate the Barcus-Berry product during his live tap performance at the Joyce Theater in Manhattan, NY, December 20 to January 15, 2006.
"I strive to develop a unique sound that will encourage renewed interest in dance,” said Savion Glover, performer, choreographer, producer and director. “Through my work with Gregory Hines, I discovered the Barcus-Berry transducer, which impeccably translates my stage movement to the audience, opening up doors to new types of sounds.”
Glover’s performance features his unique pounding-style of tap dancing called ‘free-form hard core,’ which he coined after years of studying with renowned dancers such as Gregory Hines, Henry Le Tang and Sammy Davis Jr. Barcus-Berry has previously sponsored Gregory Hines, providing the “Outsider” Piezo Transducer for his stage performances as well.
"Musicorp is proud to sponsor thought-leaders involved in the arts, such as Gregory Hines and Savion Glover,” said Dan Mahoney, CEO of Musicorp. “We support Savion’s creativity and are pleased he has selected our exclusive Barcus-Berry product line for his performance.”
Glover’s inventive style of dance and alternative employment of musical instruments and accessories has increased his international recognition. Savion is known for his performance in films such as “Tap” and Spike Lee’s “Bamboozled.” He is also a well-acclaimed Broadway performer, staring in “The Tap Dance Kid,” “Jelly’s Last Jam,” “Black and Blue” and “Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk,” where he won the 1996 Tony Award for Best Choreographer. Savion has made appearances at the Winter Olympics in 2002, the popular Nike TV spot where he danced to a basketball dribbling, “Nickelodeon,” “Sesame Street,” PBS and ABC Monday Night Football.
Musicorp strives to build positive relations with its Barcus-Berry artist community and has supported individuals and bands such as Pat Green, Herbie Hancock, John Jeasonne (Rascal Flatts), Cindy Lauper, Sharon Corr (The Coors), Deni Bonet (Sarah McLachlan), Tracy Bonham (Blue Man Group) and Dan Kelly (Faith Hill, Alan Jackson).
The Barcus-Berry “Outsider” Piezo Transducer mounts on any flat-top or arch guitar and is used to effectively amplify sound for recording, broadcast or live performances that require high-level output and feedback rejection. Barcus-Berry is manufactured and exclusively distributed by Musicorp and offers pickups and preamps for pianos, violins and guitars in addition to its new Vibrato-AE™ Series Acoustic-Electric Violin.
